Reeling from the loss, nothing seemed certain anymore. With a future of no guarantees, we decided to do something. Troy and Monica first met in 1996 when they were both working at a local real estate office. Immediately, they hit it off and knew they were meant to be together. Troy and Monica were married in 1999 and soon after started growing their family.
Their son Lance was born in 2001 and daughter Kaylyn in 2003. They feel blessed that real estate was booming when the kids were so young, which allowed Monica to be at home with the kids.
When Lance and Kaylyn started school, Monica started a staging company so she could help educate sellers how to best present their homes for sale. Troy and Monica have always loved having the flexibility to be so present with Lance and Kaylyn.
In 2017 Troy’s father passed away unexpectedly. He’d been a huge part of Troy’s life since his mother passed away from MS when he was still a teenager. After the passing of Troy’s father, there was a void for all of them, the children included. He was Kaylyn’s viola teacher and Lance’s Saxophone teacher, which also led Lance onto a path for a music-based career in audio engineering and production. His absence was not only felt in their hearts but also in a large part of the music community. Through this devastating loss, Troy and Monica realized you never know what’s going to happen and you should be prepared for every outcome.
In the months before losing Troy’s father, things had already been challenging as they were helping Lance
get treatment for severe anxiety and OCD. Just 18 months after Troy’s dad passed away, Troy faced another battle with skin cancer that would require him to undergo extensive surgery. This time it took longer to heal, the cuts were deeper and after their recent loss, it felt less routine than usual. Fortunately, everything turned out okay and though Troy had over one hundred stiches in his face, you’d barely know the difference by looking at him. Merely a week after Troy’s surgery, Monica’s sister was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Even with all of the health issues going on with their family, they persevered.
Preparing for every outcome has always been important to Troy and Monica, even before they met. Troy had joined the Marine Corps when he was 19 and was stationed at Camp
Pendleton before being sent over to protect our nation in the first gulf war. Because of all of this Troy and Monica learned they needed to roll with the punches and keep going. In 2018, Monica became a licensed real estate broker; they decided it was time to come together as a team not just in life, but in real estate as well. As a couple, they see each other every day and are in constant communication, always informing each other of any updates.
